  54.      Introduction
  55.      ------------

  57.           Version FIVE of The Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid, contains more
  58.      than ONE MILLION entries.  It is a COMPLETE REPLACEMENT encompassing
  59.      all previous OCFA releases.
  60.  
  61.           It is a pleasure to announce the addition of the Bruce County
  62.      Genealogical Society, the Temiskaming Genealogy Group, as well as
  63.      the Niagara Peninsula and Norfolk Branches of the OGS.  The Perth,
  64.      Waterloo-Wellington, Kingston, London-Middlesex, Lambton, Ottawa,
  65.      Kawartha, Quinte and Brant Branches of the OGS, as well as the Upper
  66.      Ottawa Valley Genealogical Group continue to support the project.
  67.  
  68.           Data published by the above organizations is obviously essential
  69.      to the growth of the OCFA database.  However, the volunteers who have
  70.      spent hundreds of hours to transfer the data from "paper to computer"
  71.      represent the heart and sole of OCFA.  Without them, the project could
  72.      not have succeeded.
  73.  
  74.           I would like to extend my very sincere thanks to each and every
  75.      volunteer whose name appears on the "OCFA honour roll".  All of them
  76.      have contributed to the growth of the OCFA database.  Several seem to
  77.      have virtually altered their life style in order to sacrifice a few
  78.      hours every day to enter data.  This dedication shown by Don Pettit,
  79.      Sherri Pettit, Eva Pettit, Marianne Wilkat, Marjory Wilson and Darryl
  80.      Bonk represents over 200,000 entries since the release of OCFA Four
  81.      last June!

  130.      Purpose

  133.           This database is intended as a "pointer" database only.  It
  134.      consists of the surnames, cemetery name and location of more than
  135.      one million interments in Ontario and one county in the province of
  136.      Quebec.  The file does not contain transcriptions or dates, but it
  137.      does tell the reader which county, township and cemetery contains a
  138.      given surname.

  226.           The character separated ASCII format can be read with an
  227.      ASCII viewer such as Vern Buergs popular LIST program, or by
  228.      using the DOS 'Type' command (type filename.ext |more), but
  229.      greater viewing flexibility can be gained by importing these
  230.      files into a Data Base program.

  302.           It would be naive to believe that the OCFA database does not
  303.      contain a growing number of inaccuracies.  The process of data
  304.      transfer from headstone to OCFA includes many steps and comes from
  305.      many sources and is beyond my control.... errors are inevitable.
  306.      Please do not hesitate to point out any errors or omissions that
  307.      you encounter.
